Since our ideas are partly inspired by other sites and I was thinking we could list some features that other sites have that would be nice to have in afterlyfe as well (or whatever name we will end up with). We could make a clear list here to wrap up some ideas that are inspired by other sites. We could also make a poll later based on the list and get a glimpse of what features are most wanted. The most wanted features could be considered to be added to the new site or modified to be more suitable to what we are aiming at. Obviously the new site is going to be novel, unique and different and even if some of the features were adopted from other sites they won't be completely the same as in the other sites. (except some simple features, I suppose)
But list here some of features you think are good and that work well in your opinion of some sites you've used. I'll make a master list of the features to this post as they come. Here are some questions to help:
What did you like about gsm? What kind of of features we could adopt from vp, gaia, ourworld etc.?
LIST:
1. NPCs for the beginning, shops, etc. (with a backstory, like in gaia) 2. new layering system: maximum amount of items on per category as 10 and you could move the items up and down one by one (like in vp, but better) 3. daily quests with small/moderate rewards (money) 4. various forum categories (like in vp but maybe more) 5. possibility to change [basic money] into [rarer money (the money you mostly buy with real money)] for a certain amount of [basic money] (like in stardoll) 6. monthly fashion contest with rewards (money, clothing set...) 7. diversity in items (and avatar bases, as in more than one body type, like in stardoll) 8. text editor/forum supports html and bb code (for forum, blogs, profiles etc. like in gaia) 9. personal blog/journal (like in vp and deviantrart) 10. shoutbox (with a reasonable price, not as expensive as in vp) 11. status update (like in gsm, the quote beside your username) 12. saving favourite outfits (more than one favourite outfit slot) 13. guest book for profiles (like in vp) 14. trading/transfering system (items, money, like in vp) 15. best friends (like in vp)

1. NPCs for the beginning, shops, etc. with a backstory 2. maximum amount of items on per category needs to be like 10 and we need to be able to move the items as we please. not like on vp that if i move a hairstyle up a layer, everything that is in the hairstyle category goes up. 3. we could have quests/ a list of daily quests that would be the same for everyone such as: collect 500 cash and you will get a reward! and the reward is like 250 more cash!!! nice! wow that way we wouldn't need to have a daily collectible, as the daily quests could be randomized. and we could do like a specific one for each day of the week and change it every month, as it isn't too much to ask. 4. more forum categories art, games, music, animals, beauty, fashion, etc. 5. possibility to change [basic money] into [rarer money] for a certain amount of [basic money]. 6. monthly fashion contest and winners get that sweet $$$ and a nice clothing set or something

Well, I can tell you what I certainly didn't like about VirtualPopstar: the way you had to put on the clothes in the wardrobe. You should be able to decide with each object individually what you want to wear over/under another type of clothing, not per category. This is probably poorly explained, but what I mean is that you should be able to, for example, put one shirt under a jacket, but still be able to put another shirt over that jacket (not that everyone wants to do that, but you get the idea, right?) This way, you prevent hairstyles ending up really weird/ugly in an outfit you're wearing, if this hairstyle is very long and goes behind your avatar (the hairstyle in this example would be one piece, so not with that background kinda stuff, as you have on VirtualPopstar).
Hopefully I've made the idea clear.

however the rare and basic money exchange leads to a problem which i thought about for the secondhand store and the basic fashion shop. i thought that we should have the items sold in both types of money, rare and basic. so having either that option or the money exchange would be useless. BUT then again we could have a shop for the rare money, basic money, and then the second hand store which uses both types.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Nice thread!
My very favorite thing about forums, is the community. Having community games and contests inspires people to work together, compete, and communicate. Having a whole welcome/introduction forum, plus hangouts and talking forums, charity forums, tutorials, etc. can really help make the site feel friendly and like a community. That's most important to me.
I love when the forum is a big deal. I love games and tasks to do, and all that. But for me, the main point is always to chat and make friends. Even clothes comes second. (gasp)
Having a big variety of items is pretty key for me. I have an odd style, and if a site doesn't have items that feel like "me" I get bored quick and leave. Plus, having a lot to choose from, especially for new users. Having a full shop with cheaper starter options is really important to keeping new members around, otherwise they feel like it's a struggle and leave.
(a spell checker? This thing isn't telling me when I mess up!)

Sort of not too important, but for the layout of posting in topics to be similar to gaia's/this site's layout? The boxes support html and bbc code, but i think things would have to change in order for the site to be able to keep up and not lag. Replying is just alot more versatile here and on gaia.

tbh I like how on stardoll there are different bodytypes BUT I feel like that would be kinda, idk, hard here?? + it would maybe mean that everyone had to make different versions of the items they make and like who even wants to do that ahaha
