To prevent from cluttering up the Name Suggestions thread, it has occurred that we need to discuss themes which shall then directly impact the name, too. Again, as Solitude mentioned in the Name Suggestions thread, all the same rules still apply to theme: "We do need to watch out for copyright though! Please no dumb suggestions like ThePussyslayers or something, but please do be creative ;-)"Ideas so far: - Afterlife 1 - In a sense, the site is coming out of the death of another, sort of, so it fits. Something like the animated movie "Book of Life" or Tim Burton style for the layout would be amazing! You could create a really cool feel that's totally unique! 2 - If new members are led through a tutorial like, "welcome! You've just died! But the afterlife is super cool! Let me show you around." I personally think a theme like that has potential. 3 - It could focus more on heaven, and a journey . Cause like.. heaven is usually described as a place where you can be happy and live out your dreams (which you can do with creativity and making outfits and making friends and stuff on the website). More heaven as a concept, like... kindof in the same way as someone would call their favourite store "heaven" or a perfect day. Not an actual religious place you have to "earn" or anything. It would probably be best to go for Greek/roman ish mythology as it's a bit more neutral than present day religions. 4 - Spirits: What kind of spirit/angel do you want to be? The Street-angel? Cute-angel? So we get different clothing styles too. We cant make it too fantasy-ish tho imo. 5 - It could be really fun to pick which land they live in, even if it was just like a tag on their profile or whatever. Could even be like, a demon land, angel land, etc. (maybe not actually calling them "angel" and "demon") 6 - Guardians - to keep away from the religious connotations of angels and demons?
- Simple Theme = Humans
- No theme 1 - On sites like GSM + VP, the whole theme was kinda forgotten about by the users
- Fairies 1 - Could do something like fairy mythology. Like the Seelie Court (light fairies) and Unseelie Court (dark fairies). Not good and evil, by the way. Just what kind of magic they had and stuff. Things to keep in mind:- The theme should not be Religious - Don't be too dark; Keep it lighthearted. - Keep away from anything relating back to VP, like Popstars, etc. We're trying to leave it in the past. - Maybe look towards keeping it more "grounded" and less "fantastical". Try to keep it simple so there's room for fluidity. If anyone prefers it, we could compile the suggestions linking to each idea in a google doc so we don't lose them. I just wanted to make sure that those who joined this conversation later, knew the reasoning behind the themes without having to go through the entire Name Suggestions thread <3

I think someone mentioned something like Summerland in the name thread, and when I mentioned spirits I KNEW there was something tugging at my memory And then it hit me There's a book series called Evermore or something, kindof cute but very cliche YA fantasy, I liked it many years ago And there's a place there called Summerland, which is like something in between our world and heaven or something?? officialevermore.wikia.com/wiki/SummerlandKindof cute concept tbh, and there too it's like you shape everything like you want it to be and you can be creative and live your dreams (We shouldn't copy directly though bc of copyright and stuff, but the concept is cute and can be done in many different ways)

"Summerland" is a Wiccan Afterlife/heaven kinda concept. Which sounds like what that book was going for?
Something sort of basic, like you're in a new world where anything can happen could be cute. Doesn't have to be a big thing.

Well, I actually support no theme. (Unpopular opinion?) Just leaving poorly functioning sites behind, beginning an afterlife on a chill new platform.
The idea of choosing a "land" or so, is kinda nice however. Even if it was just a badge in the profile as mentioned above. The "lands" or regions or provences or whatever could have competitions with each other or some themed stuff. There was an event in gSm one time where the whole community was divided into the South pole and the North pole and the staff hosted many competitions between the two teams, it was a lot of fun. Some people took it pretty seriously though so it might also lead to bullying (especially maybe with younger users eh?)

i think i've already said so, but i do support a very low-key theme – if any. as in, only the tutorial would be themed ("welcome to the afterlife! let me show you around.") but otherwise, i think we step into another territory it's still a dress-up game and most of our base will come from vp, so i don't think anything fantastical will apply to most – unless we start looking 4 a new base
i.e welcome to the afterlife, let me show you around. this is your wardrobe. you can put things on like this. this is how you earn fans (or whatever the leveling thing will be), and u get this currency etc etc etc

I like all of the ideas that we have combined with the "afterlife" idea, but the description that's written in the first post seems way too themed for my liking and compared to vp.. I also think it'd be too complicated, or atleast that there'd be a lot of stuff in the game and that can easily become confusign for new players,,,

Was there a street fashion suggestion? I don't think I've seen it.
But, that could be cool! Being actually fashion based sounds like a good idea. No idea how it would be implemented. But it makes me think shops should be organized into regions.
It also makes me think of fashion magazines taking pictures of anyone on the street that looks good. Any fashion seen on the street can be street fashion, so it's not limiting. I'd love to know what Rat was thinking.

If people want to go with the afterlife theme but still keep it focused on chatting and collecting items, it sounds like a good idea that the afterlife-part would be limited to a short introduction, items, and maybe (as suggested) a tag to put on your profile.
Some ideas surrounding this would be that when you're just starting out, you get to choose between traveling to the Floating/Flying City above the clouds or the Sunken/Buried City below the ground. It is a bit like the heaven and hell concept but without the religion attached to it. The premise doesn't have to be the same either.
What your choice would change could be small things like the default layout. Both places would have their own aesthetic and there could be shops corresponding with them (available to everyone), as well as themed games.
Other places could be added too, such as one based on nature (on the ground) and a futuristic one in outer space.
An idea for a different theme could be dreams. The name can still be Afterlife, or something else like, uh, Dreamfield, Somewhere, Elsewhere, Shifter, etc. The idea behind that would be that you could be anything you wanted to.

In name suggestion this is happening... oooh imagine the levels being like "intern" and then "column writer" n all of that !!! n at the top ur CEO !!!!!! n at a certain level u get create ur own magazines...... like on gsm!! or like record label on vp,, but i think u should be able 2 give out magazines if we run with that yes omg !!!!! and like the way 2 level up could be doing tasks related to your "job" or "position" The idea is basically that "Afterlife" (or whatever we pick) is a fashion magazine and everyone works for it.

Sure, np here it is For the origin story if we're sticking with the afterlife sort of theme we could just say something like "you've been reborn....Welcome to the Afterlyfe" or whatever you guys end up calling it go on to explain, how when a person dies they become a virtual character in a game or story controlled by their pasts self if you want to live well in your next life, you better take good care of your avi in The Afterlyfe. Blah blah blah this is your room buy amenities for your avi so that, when you're offline, your future self won't be bored when you're away. Also, if you are uncomfortable being naked in your present, be considerate of future you and wear some clothes which you can purchase (shows where the shop button is) "here"

Honestly I'd love to go with Greek gods but that's kinda religion right? We could base our stories on greek mythology

Quinzelle ty :3 I like the idea, it's a good way of looking at it. I think personally, though, my favourite is dreams. As you say, it's vague but not enough that you'd be lost or miss the theme and it's flexible and a good way of getting too caught up in the theme so much that it limits us.
